Library Information
HOURS OF OPERATION:
Our library at AES will be open at the following times during the 2007- 2008 school year:
BOOK LOAN POLICIES:
Kindergarten students are allowed to take out one book at a time. Grade 1 and 2 students are allowed to take out two books at a time. New this year! Grade 3, 4 and 5 students will be allowed to take out three books at a time. Teachers are allowed unlimited books. Parents can sign two books out on their child's name in addition to any books their child has out. All books are taken out for a one week loan period at which time they need to be returned or renewed. Each class will have a weekly Library/Book Exchange time. It
is very helpful for us if you remember your library day and return or renew your books on time.See the schedule below for your Library day.
Class Library/Book Exchange Schedule:
LOST/DAMAGED BOOKS:
One of our school rules is that we at AES respect property. Every student in the school is responsible for looking after library books. Books cost a lot of money to buy, and there is much work involved in getting each book ready for the shelves. For these reasons we ask all students to take "extra special care" of the books they take out from the library. Accidents sometimes happen even to
books. If you damage a book by accident, please return it directly to Miss. Lee or Mrs. Novak so that we can repair the book and get it back on the shelf for other students to enjoy. Should a book be lost or damaged so that it cannot be re-shelved, students will be asked to cover the cost of replacing the book.
ALEXANDRIA RESEARCHER AND INTERNET ACCESS
There are four computers in the library that are set up with our school's Library Research system, Alexandria. Students can log into one of these computers with their name and password and click on the Alexandria Reasearch icon on the launcher to access information about all the items in our library. These computers are also internet equiped and students can use them for research and word processing for school assignments as long as there is an adult in the library during the time that they are on the computer.
UPCOMING EVENTS IN THE LIBRARY:
Home Reading Club: This program is ongoing through out the year. We start right away in September and the goal is to read for 250 nights during the school year. Last year the students who participated read for almost 23,000 nights all together!!! We want to try to beat that amount this year. If you have not started reading yet, get your form form either Miss. Lee in the library or from your teacher and start reading!
Scholastic Book Fair: October (exact dates to be announced)
Author Visit: November (exact date to be anounced) The District 83 Teacher-Librarian Assocciation is hoping to get Mr. David Ward in to talk
to our students. Mr. Ward has written several children's (The Hockey Tree) and novels (The Mask Trilogy) and will be an interesting and dynamic speaker.
